In 1977 Leo Shababy and son Leo “Skip” Shababy Jr. moved their families from Chicago Illinois to the land of sweet tea and BBQ, Atlanta Georgia. Combining a hard work ethic, family values and a passion for quality food the duo set out to bring the great taste of the “Windy City” to Atlanta and in 1979 Skip’s Chicago Dogs was introduced.
Starting in an old 600 sq foot produce building in Avondale Estates, Skip’s began with a simple but unique menu. Italian Beef Sandwiches and Chicago Style Hot Dogs set the foundation that would truly draw people from miles around.
In 1990 the business had outgrown it’s tiny space. With sights set on higher ground, Skip moved the operation to a parcel located directly behind the current location and began demo work on the humble beginning’s location. The location began to take a new shape and added on 800 more square feet to accommodate the booming venture.
8 months later, moving into the brand new location, Skips was full steam ahead. Adding on new menu items, that would quickly become staples, such as the delicious Philly Cheese Steak, Chicago’s Pizza Puff and the explosive Spicy Chicken Cheese Steak, people swarmed the new location hungrier then ever.
With 1,000’s served and satisfied Skip’s seeks each day to deliver the same quality products and services that started it all.
